The Sloppy Trail
It wasn't totally clear at first.
I initially suspected Bev of soliciting a hacker on
the Usenet newsgroup alt.hackers.malicious since she made claims
to he a "part-time hacker". It made sense so I never
bothered to really dig into the headers of that original
post from "stacy@graffiti.net".
I decided to check alt.hackers.malicious to see if
there had been any new posts and low and behold, there was. This one was not soliciting a hacker but
rather trying desperately to cover tracks that could lead to serious
trouble for a few women
The second post from "stacy@graffiti.net"soliciting
a hacker to destroy our fine site tells the story perfectly. The
NNTP posting host is none other than Bev's ISP - singa.pore.net.
There's no way out of this one...it's fully traceable.
The third post from "stacy@graffiti.net"
shows an even different location. If it hadn't been for Bev getting
sloppy when sending that second post, it would have been a little
harder to figure it out.
So what we have here is Beverly trying to cover for
her lack of intelligence. She made repeated claims that she was
an accomplished hacker. She claimed that she had free run of our
server and even had been able to look at the access logs. When
pressed to tell us some very basic points about our server, she
clammed up.
Now the word gets out that Bev has inserted her foot
in her mouth again and really screwed up. MelissaM decides to
take the matter into her own hands and solve the prroblem, much
like she prefers her message boards to be rrun. If something is
posted that she doesn't like, she get's it deleted. However unbeknownst
to Melissa, USENET isn't a messageboard. Messages are stored on
thousands of servers all over the world.
This attempt to solicit someone to commit a crime is
not going to be deleted so easily.
The response to MelissaM's
request to "delete the thread" is too good to ignore.
You girls are getting dumber all the time.
